Lenovo Flex 5 (14 Inch) Review – Simply Laptop

In addition to being powerful and flexible, the Lenovo Flex 5 14 Inch is a cost-effective laptop that offers many of the same features found on a premium laptop. I absolutely love the looks and performance of this laptop. On the other hand, it does not appear to be as user-friendly as many other similar laptops.

Due to the shallow keyboard, typing is difficult. A dim screen can also be a deterrent, especially if you are using the machine on a bright day. Additionally, it is considerably less expensive than other laptops of similar specifications.

Lenovo Flex 5 14 is available in a variety of configurations. We have the 7th generation i3, the 7th generation i5, and the 7th generation i7 processors. It is also available in three colors, including Black Onyx, Mineral Grey, and Liquid Blue. In this article, we are reviewing the 7th generation i7 version in Onyx Black.

The design

There is a simple yet eye-catching two-tone design on the Lenovo Flex 5. The top of the device has a black hard plastic lid with the Lenovo logo at the top left corner. Opening the desk, you will find it to be a classy gunmetal gray aluminum desk with a central keyboard that is elegantly placed. With its modern design and curvy edges, the laptop appears to be of high quality and looks elegant.

Lenovo’s Flex 5 is not the lightest device in its class, weighing 4.1 pounds and measuring 12.9x9x0.8 inches. In essence, it is a convertible 2-in-1 laptop that can be used as a laptop, as a tablet, and as a display when the keyboard is folded back. It is also capable of being used in ‘tent’ mode. With its incredibly flexible design, the inch can be propped in various positions. You get used to it, although sometimes it is difficult to open.

Display

Lenovo’s Flex 5 displays fail to impress. The display is dimmed due to its dull 14inch 1920×1800 resolution. If you employ even the slightest degree of low brightness, you are likely to lose a great deal of detail in shadoYou will notice that the dullness is gone when you turn up the brightness to the maximum, but a noticeable amount of glare will replace it.you.

Hardware

1. The ports and slots of a computer

A standard set of ports is provided by the Lenovo Flex 5. The left side of the device contains a HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, a USB C port and a headphone jack. A USB 3.0 port and a SD card slot are located on the right side of the device. The Kensington lock slot is located at the back.

2. Internet camera

It is better than you could expect from a laptop camera to have a 720p webcam by default. Both color and detail are excellent, with minimal graininess. In a room with bright lighting, however, it is less effective.

3. Keyboards and touch pads

The keyboard has a travel distance of 1.3mm as opposed to the optimum 1.5mm, which is a bit soft. It has a 4.1*2.7-inch touchpad. It works well with all Windows 10 gestures and is smooth and accurate..

Additionally, this laptop includes a fingerprint reader that is located just below the right bottom part of the keyboard, which is a convenient feature for users who would like to conveniently switch from the desktop to the Windows screen.

The Lenovo Active Pen 2 Stylus is also supported by Lenovo. The Flex 5 is ideally suited for designers, students, and creative professionals, especially when combined with Windows Ink.

The software

There are only a few software add-ons included with Lenovo laptops, which is perfect for people who dislike bloatware. Lenovo includes a comprehensive set of software that is mostly useful with the Flex 5, including the Companion app for conducting diagnostics and the Settings app for configuring the webcam and networks.

As for the remainder, it is the default software that comes with the installation of Windows 10, such as Candy Crush and Bubble Witch Saga. It is possible to ignore or uninstall any applications you do not need, such as Minecraft, Twitter, and Drawboard PDF.

Performance

On the Lenovo Flex 5, a 2.7GHz Intel Core i7-7500U processor is coupled with 16GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive plus a 128GB SSD, and a Nvidia 940MX GPU with 2GB of video memory.

Almost anything you can throw at it should be no problem for it. In contrast, the graphics card is not powerful enough to handle heavy graphics games. This laptop may need to have its graphics card upgraded if you plan to use it for gaming.

The Lenovo Flex 5 performs admirably when it comes to handling normal applications. It is capable of running an absurd number of programs simultaneously, allowing you to easily switch between them.

On Chrome, you can open over 100 tabs without experiencing any lag. You will notice the fan working harder as it starts to warm up when put through its paces. You probably will not run such a large number of programs simultaneously in your normal daily life.

Also, placing it on a soft surface causes it to heat up faster than when it is placed on a hard surface, so it is likely not to be on your lap for too long while you use heavy programs.

Audio

As far as audio performance is concerned, the Lenovo Flex 5 performs very well. You can fill your room with the sounds produced by the Dolby Audio speakers. Unfortunately, the default settings have very poor bass performance. This will be handled by the Dolby Audio app through the sound settings. We recommend using the music preset.

Underneath the laptop are the speakers. The curved design prevents the speakers from being blocked when they are being used. If you place the laptop on a hard surface, it makes a tremendous difference in how the bass sounds.

Battery Life

The battery life of this device is impressive, with a lifespan of at least 8.5 hours. With the optional fast charging 64W power adapter included with your laptop, you can add an additional two hours of battery life with only fifteen minutes of charging.

It is important to remember that battery life is largely dependent on what you use the laptop for, and the Lenovo numbers reflect a normal, non-intensive everyday use.

Advantages

  1. It has a very attractive design, which gives it an acceptable appearance
  2. Performance will be satisfactory
  3. The flexibility of the system allows the user to customize it to meet their needs

Negatives

  1. There is no character in it. In spite of the fact that it looks good, it does not look outstanding
  2. The display is dim, and when the brightness is increased, it glares
  3. It has an extremely shallow keyboard
  4. When using the 2-in-1 feature for an extended period of time, the screen can develop gray lines across it when it is folded and unfolded.

Final Word

Lenovo’s Flex 5 14 inch laptop is an excellent laptop with amazing features such as its dual-format capabilities. In terms of its major disadvantages, the display is dull and the keyboard is uncomfortably shallow. However, it is quite a bargain compared to the price given all the features this laptop offers.
