Do you know where your predator engines is made? If not, then you’re probably in the dark about a lot of other things.
Predator engines have become quite popular over the last couple of years, and why shouldn’t they?
They undercut established companies like Honda and Briggs and therefore are appealing to people who are looking for a generator on a budget. Also, they are designed to use fuel most efficiently and are environmentally friendly.
Currently, Predator Engines and Generators are being sold at a well-established Californian store namely Harbour Freight Stores.
The fact that many of their models are marketed as affordable clones of expensive models of Honda has led many people to ask the question: where are predator generators manufactured?
In this post, we would be looking into the manufacturing process of predator generators, the stats of their most popular models, and find out whether they are really the clones of expensive Honda generators.
Stick with us to find out.
What are the most popular models of predator engines and products?
Predator has made a name for itself in affordable and energy-efficient generator engines. Two of their most popular products include a 2000 Generator and 212 cc engine.
The 2000 generator has become popular for being compact and silent. The 2000 watt generator produces enough power for most residential needs, and at a noise level of fewer than 50 decibels.
the 212 cc engine is also powerful with more than enough capacity to keep your home running during outages. This model can produce up to 3000 watts of electrical output which runs on propane or natural gas.
They are a little controversial and yet the most sought-after engine. Part of the reason is their marketing as a Honda Clone.
Both these products have tons of reviews and are often out of stock.
Who makes predator engines?
Predator generators stirred controversy because nobody seems to know where they are manufactured. You are reading this article to find out the same.
But there is no simple answer to it.
We know that every clone product has some connection to China, and for predator generators, this has been true until recently.
The Lifan Group based in Chongqing, China was behind the Predator Engines for a long time. The company had a license to sell products in Latin America, Europe, South Asia, Middle East, and China itself.
The company had a wide variety of products including but not limited to the following:
- Commercial Vehicles
- Passenger Cars
The Lifan Group has factories in China where they manufactured predator generators and shipped them across the world, but the generators now have virtually disappeared from their websites.
Let’s look into the company which is selling them nowadays. Harbour Freight.
Where are Predator engines manufactured?
We can’t say with certainty where the predator engines are being made, but we can make an educated guess.
The Lifan group might have sold its patent to an obscure company as it has not been the official manufacturer of Predator generators, or it might have created a smaller company to continue making the generators.
Harbour Freight might have been sourcing the generators directly from the Lifan group, it is the only possibility in light of the fact that the store is offering the generator at a cut-throat price.
So, the Lifan Group seems to be utilizing its factories to manufacture Predator generators and Harbour Freight is taking all the credit for it.
How similar is the Predator 212 cc to the Honda Counterpart?
Predator 212cc generators have become popular as a clone of Honda generators.
They are compared with the Honda Gx200 model.
Let’s find out what they have in common.
Is the predator 212 cc an exact clone of Honda Gx200?
To be honest, they are similar if not identical. 212cc isn’t the direct clone of Honda Gx200.
From the outside, they might look the same. But some of the internal parts are completely different.
Are their parts interchangeable?
Though Harbour freight never claimed that the Predator 212cc can be a replacement for Honda, in practice people replace the faulty Honda engine parts with the inexpensive ones from the Predator.
However, we would not recommend you to try this as it might void your warranty. But more than that it is very dangerous as any ill-fitting part can lead to a fatal accident.
Many websites sell parts for the Honda generators and Honda clones and tell you the difference between the two.
Although it is not a safe way, you would save a ton of money if you are planning to replace a major part.
Can I replace my Honda engine with a predator 212cc?
If you want to replace the whole Honda engine, replacing it with the Honda counterpart would work.
Similarly, you can replace the engine of a car or cart with a predator 212 cc engine.
Predator engine is a ball-bearing mounted gas-saving engine with overhead valves. This makes it fuel-efficient and cleaner than the traditional gasoline engine. Therefore, most people replace the engine on their cart, cars, and lawn mower with a predator engine.
